Department of Chemistry

About Department

Department of Chemistry was established on 15th June 1972 along with other departments allied with science faculty in our college. Dr. G. D. Deshpande (ex-Principal) was the first person appointed as head of the department of chemistry. The department was started with students for PUC course and later on for B.Sc. course. Our first batch of 10 students completed the B.Sc. degree in 1980. All of them secured about Department.Further in the department, we have introduced new allied structural subject “Dyes and Drugs” in 1983 for B.Sc. course. Considering the need of our area and the students, we have introduced M.Sc. (organic chemistry) in the academic year 1996-97 having intake capacity of Thirty students.  Subsequently, we have introduced the M.Sc.  (Inorganic chemistry) from the academic year 2003-04 having intake capacity of Ten students.

The contribution of the staff for development of department as well as subject is always valuable. Dr. G. D. Deshpande Ex-Head and Principal have established the chemistry department in our college. Dr.A.G.Peshwe, Dr.S.P.Pachling, Dr.Mrs.R.A.Shastri Dr.R.A.Rasheed Dr. J.S.Jadhav, Dr.S.G.Shirodkar (present Professor and Head), Department of Chemistry, Mr. N.N. Sakarkar, M.V. Girgaonkar, Dr. G.B. Pande, Mrs. V.V. Kodgire, Dr. S.W. Wanale have successively contributed for the development of department.

All the laboratories are provided with facilities such as gas connection, water circulation, microbalances, distilled water facilities, Inverter, etc. The laboratories are well equipped as per required standards with reference to the syllabi. Our department also has research center recognized by SRTM University, Nanded.Considering the present need, we are concentrating in research activities. Our teachers have provided guidance to M.Sc. part II students to complete the research project as a part of syllabus. We have a good number of research publications. One UGC sponsored minor projects is running and three minor research projects have submitted for sanction. Dr.S.G.Shirdokar, Dr. S.P. Pachling and Dr. J.S. Jadhav are recognized as a research guide and eight students are carrying out the research work under his guidance.
